Commonwealth Games: Ziva breaks 200 meter national record

Ziva Moosa Shafeeu has broken the national record for the Women's 200 Meter running event in the ongoing Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, Scotland.

During the event, she finished the first heat with a time of 24.67 seconds. She placed 5th in the heat.

The national record was previously held by Aishath Himna Hassan, who set the national record for the event in 2022 with a time of 24.90 seconds. Himna at the time broke Afa Ismail's record of 24.96 seconds set during the Olympic Games held at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016.

Anha Nizar and Aminath Layana Mohamed competed in the Women's 200 Meter running event, with both of them setting new personal best times in the event.

Anha competed in the fourth heat of the event and finished the race in 24.75 seconds, and placed 6th in the heat. Layana finished the race in 25.85 seconds in the fifth heat and placed 6th.

Male runners for Maldives, Hassan Saeed, Adam Riffath and Hussain Zeke Suadh, competed in the Men's 200 Meter heats today.

Saeed competed in the first heat and finished the race in 4th place with a time of 22.10 seconds. Riffath competed in the seventh heat and finished the race with a time of 22.13 seconds. Zeke competed in the ninth heat and finished the race in 6th place with a time of 22.29 seconds.

The three male athletes set times higher than their personal bests.

The men's national record for the event is held by Saeed, who set a time of 20.75 seconds in 2016 during the Indian Grand Prix held in Bangalore, India. His best timing this year is 21.48 seconds, which was set during the 200 Meter event's final in the 2026 Association Championship.

Riffath and Zeke set new personal best times during 200 Meter final in the 2026 Association Championship. Riffath's personal best is 21.86 seconds, and Zeke's personal best is 22.25 seconds.
