Maldivian swimmers have set six more national records at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, taking the team's total to eight records in the first four days of competition.

On the opening day last Friday, Mohamed Aan Hussain broke the men's long course 50m backstroke national record, while Looth Mohamed Hussain set a new national record in the men's long course 100m breaststroke.

The team added two more records on Saturday. Meral Ain Latheef broke the women's 200m freestyle national record with a time of 2:25.08, surpassing the previous mark of 2:25.32 set by Aminath Shajan at the 2016 Speedo Thailand Age Group Championships.

In the mixed long course 4x100m freestyle relay, Aan, Mohamed Rihan Shiham, Meral and Amna Thazkiya Mirsad clocked 4:00.64 to set a new national record. The previous record of 4:04.21 was established at the 22nd World Aquatics Championships last year.

Aan also competed in the men's 50m freestyle on Saturday, finishing in 24.59 seconds. The time was 0.78 seconds slower than his national record of 23.81 seconds, which he set at last year's World Aquatics Championships.

On Sunday, Thazkiya and Looth each added another national record.Thazkiya set a new women's long course 100m freestyle record with a time of 1:02.74, improving on her previous mark of 1:03.67 set at last year's Asian Open Schools Invitational Aquatics Championships.

Looth broke his own men's long course 50m breaststroke record, finishing in 31.54 seconds. He had previously set the record at 31.81 seconds during the 10th World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships in Romania last year.

Three events were held on Monday, including the men's long course 200m butterfly, the women's long course 50m backstroke and the women's long course 400m individual medley.

Meral finished the women's 400m individual medley in 6:03.71. She continues to hold the national record in the event with a time of 5:57.86, set at the 10th World Aquatics Junior Championships.

Thazkiya set a new women's long course 50m backstroke record after clocking 31.55 seconds, improving on her previous record of 32.57 seconds set at the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain last year.

Rihan also broke the men's long course 200m butterfly national record with a time of 2:23.94, surpassing his previous record of 2:25.20, which he set at last year's World Aquatics ChampionshipAhead of the Commonwealth Games, Rihan had already set the national record in the men's long course 400m individual medley at this year's Bahrain Aquatics Cup, finishing in 5:11.03. His previous best of 5:14.03 was recorded at the 19th Asian Games in 2023.
