Pakistan has secured a place in the final of the Diamond Jubilee Tournament, which is ongoing in Malé to mark the 75th anniversary of Maldivian football, after defeating Afghanistan with a score of 2-0.

This boost to their final hopes follows their previous 3-0 victory over the host nation, Maldives.

The team that will compete against Pakistan in the final of this four-nation tournament will be confirmed tonight, following the match between Maldives and Bangladesh.

The last time Pakistan played in a football final was 35 years ago at the football event of the then SAF Games held in Colombo.

The final match, featuring the Pakistan team under head coach Nolberto Solano, will take place on the 10th of this June.

From the start of the match played today at the Maldives National Football Stadium, Pakistan took control early on and claimed a 1-0 lead. Forward Umar Nawaz secured the lead for Pakistan in the first half. The first half ended with Pakistan ahead with this goal.

Although Afghanistan attempted to push forward and create attacks, Pakistan stopped those threats with coach Solano's strong defensive tactics and prevented any goals against them. Even though Afghanistan intensified the pressure to equalize in the second half, they could not break through Pakistan's defense.

Near the end of the match, Harun Hamid, who came on as a substitute, scored a goal and secured a 2-0 lead for Pakistan.

The last time Pakistan won a final match of a major football tournament and secured a gold medal was at the SAFF Games held in 1991.

That was a multi-sports games tournament where they achieved success by defeating Maldives 2-0 in Colombo.

This marks the first time Pakistan has advanced to the final of a tournament that features football exclusively after 64 years.

The last time the country competed in the final of such a tournament was at the Merdeka Tournament held in Malaysia in 1962. In that final match, Pakistan finished as runners-up after losing to Indonesia.
