Maldives has fallen by three ranks in the world ranking after having lost two consecutive matches in the CAVA Women’s Volleyball Championship 2026 being held in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Before the championship began, the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) released the first world ranking list on Friday, with Maldives having been 63rd.

However, Maldives has fallen three ranks and is now 66th in the world ranking.

This is due to Maldives losing their first game of the championship to Kyrgyzstan in three straight sets and then losing to India in three straight sets as well.

The FIVB introduced the world ranking system in such a way that it maintains their guideline of calculating results via points immediately. The points are calculated right after a match ends. And if a team loses matches in three sets, their total points are deducted by a large amount.

During yesterday's match, India displayed great skill against Maldives, with their three set win results being 25-9, 25-14 and 25-17.

Before the championship began, India was 70th in the rankings, two ranks behind Maldives. However, as India beat Nepal in their first game and then beat Maldives yesterday in three sets, they have climbed up to 64th in the rankings.

Maldives' next match will be their last one in the group stage and will be playing against Nepal. Maldives has the opportunity to improve their ranking if they get a good result from the game.
