Captain of the Pakistan football team Abdullah Iqbal has scored a major win for himself before the Diamond Jubilee International Football Tournament by winning the Swedish Cup with Swedish team Mjällby.
Along with Maldives and Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh will be competing in the Diamond Jubilee. Many European players play for Pakistan and Afghanistan. Of all those players, the most high profile player is 23 year old Abdullah Iqbal, who is playing in Sweden's top league.
The league has a total of 16 teams that compete, with Mjällby currently in 6th place.
Mjällby played against Hammarby in the Swedish Cup final that was held on Thursday, with Mjällby winning 2-1. Iqbal played as the defender for his club, with him strengthening the defensive line.
The final match was held at the Strawberry Arena at Solna, Sweden, where 39,903 supporters turned up to watch the match. Jacob Bergström scored the winning goal for Mjällby in extra time in the first half. Mjällby's Elliot Stroud took the lead initially, with Hammarby's Paulos Abraham equalizing three minutes later.
With this win, the Pakistani captain will be making his way to Maldives in good form. Iqbal is currently fit to play in the Diamond Jubilee. He played the full 90 minutes during yesterday's match against BK Häcken in the Swedish league.
Iqbal, who was born to his Pakistani family in Copenhagen, Denmark, transferred to Mjällby in 2024. The club claimed the league championship in 2025.
