Biss Buru Sports Club has been crowned the champion of the Male' Region League, Second Division.

They claimed the champion title after winning last night's match against Lorenzo Sports Club with a score of 5-2.

Biss Buru took the lead in the first half, with Lorenzo equalizing in the second half. However, Biss Buru scored three more goals and were named the champions of the Second Division.

The league, which was played in an entirely new format this year with a total of 12 teams, was split into two rounds. Teams were divided into two groups in the first round, with the final round being played between the teams that had placed first and second in each group via league regulations.

In the final round, Biss Buru and Club PK scored six points. Biss Buru placed first due to goal difference. United Henveirians and Lorenzo, the other two teams that competed in this round, scored three points each.

With their win, Biss Buru has secured their spot in the qualifying round of the Dhivehi Premier League (DPL) for the next season.

A total of six teams will be playing in the DPL playoffs for the next season. As Biss Buru has won the Second Division, three teams out of six have been confirmed. Along with Biss Buru, the other teams are seventh and eighth place holders in this season of the DPL, TC Sports Club and Club Green Streets, respectively.

The other slots are reserved for the North, Central And South league champions. The top four teams of the playoffs will qualify for the 2026/2027 DPL.

Biss Buru, who had been playing in the Third Division, were promoted to the Second Division after securing a spot in the semi-finals of the 2021 tournament. That year, Biss Buru played in the finals and lost to Buru Sports Club.

This is the third year the team has competed in the Second Division. Even though they were unable to compete in the group stage in the last two tournaments, they have been crowned the champion this year.
