Aamin Umar Moosa has defended his champion title of the Men's Open Championship in the Maldives National Bodyboarding League (MBBL).

Aamin was crowned the champion in the 2025 Burunu Shikaaru Bodyboarding Challenge, with him securing 13.34 points against Aswan Mohamed in the 2026 final. Aswan secured 9.83 points.

Aswan moved up to the finals after beating Ali Khushruwan (Kuda Ayya) with a 0.9 point difference in the semi-finals, with Aswan scoring 11.50 points. Aamin scored 12.60 points and beat Eyan Ahmed by 0.43 points.

The tournament began yesterday at Male' Varunulaa Raalhugandu with a total of 21 bodyboarders. The Men's Open category had taken place, with the Junior Men's Open, drop-knee and Women's Junior Division to take place.

This is the first time junior women bodyboarders are competing in the Bodyboarding League. 10 junior women bodyboarders will be participating.

The Maldives Bodyboarding Association (MBA) is currently holding discussions to give athletes in the younger age groups the opportunity to compete in a junior championship.

The MBA has changed their scoring criteria for this year's league competitions. Aside from the National Bandufilaa Challenge, the champion from each tournament would secure 1,000 points.

With the changes that were brought about this year, the Burunu Shikaaru champion is to receive 1,700 points, with 1,500 points being set for the next tournament.

As per previous years, 2,000 points have been determined for the Bandufilaa Challenge. The MBA has said that if anyone is looking to win the league championship, they would have to participate in all of the league tournaments from this year on.
