Maldives Surfing Association (MSA) have begun preparations to hold the 2026 Dhivehi Surf League at Fuvahmulah City.
The association signed an agreement with the Fuvahmulah City Council yesterday to hold the national league event at Fuvahmulah for the first time. The tournament will be held under the name "Eleyi’s".
After the agreement signing ceremony, MSA President Mohamed Sobah (Chey) said that this is the beginning of a long-time dream held by surfers from Fuvahmulah.
"This is hopefully the beginning of a new page in Fuvahmulah surfing," said Sobah.
Fuvahmulah City Mayor Ismail Rafeeq said that this is a step forward in their efforts to make Fuvahmulah a city of sports and is also a big step forward for the surfing community in Fuvahmulah.
MSA has previously publicized the 2026 Dhivehi Surf League calendar, with the league set to begin at Fuvahmulah on 17th June 2026. The Muleekolhu Raalhugandu tournament will be held afterward from 29th July to 1st August. Next will be the Kerandoo tournament at L. Maabaidhoo from 26th August to 29th August. The Rannamaari Challenge will be held at the Male' Varunulaa Raalhugandu from 2nd November to 8th November.
Last year, the MSA included a bodyboarding division in the national surf league tournament for the first time, which was the Maabaidhoo tournament.
Along with the Maabaidhoo tournament, this year will see a bodyboarding division at Fuvahmulah City as well.
The 2025 Dhivehi Surf League was won by Ahmed Agil (Ammaday). The Junior League was won by Yasin Ahmed Nashid.
