The National Team squad for the Diamond Jubilee International Tournament has been selected, with practice to start on Sunday.
As part of celebrations marking 75 years of football in Maldives, FAM has organized the Diamond Jubilee International Tournament to be held from June 1 to 10 with three regional teams.
With the domestic football season ending, Hungarian Coach István Urbányi will get over a month to conduct training for the tournament.
The select Squad was announced today, featuring seasoned players as well as young upcoming faces.
Experienced players that made the squad include Ali Ashfaq (Dhagan'dey), Captain Samooh Ali (Samutte'), Goalkeeper Mohamed Faisal, Ali Fasir (Sentey), Ahmed Abdulla (Lily) and Amdhan Ali (Andy).
Young players include promising names like Mohamed Ilan Imran and Ahmed Ethan Zaki.
Also on the squad are several who played in the recent Under 20 SAFF Championship such as Goalkeeper Zahran Hassan Ziyad, Mohamed Naisham Nadheem, Ahzam Rasheed and Nassah Ibrahim Nasir.
Coach István Urbányi, who has twice before led the National Team, recently raised the Maldives to a 2-1 win against Timor-Leste in the Asian Cup Qualifying match held in Male' last month.
