The U-17 Maldives Juniors Football Championship is set to begin tomorrow at Hulhumale' with 25 teams competing in the tournament.
The tournament was previously named the U17 Inter School Football Tournament. However, all sports tournaments between schools will be held under the name of the Maldives Juniors Championship, as per the instruction from the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Skills.
The 25 teams that will be participating in the tournament will be split into six groups. The teams that place first and runner-ups from the six groups will then face off, with the two teams with the best results to then move on to the quarter-finals.
The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has arranged for the tournament to hold two group stage matches every two days. Each game will be played for 30 minutes total. The first match will begin at 3:00pm, and the second match will begin at 4:30pm.
The first match being held tomorrow will be played between Gulhee School and Ahmadhiyya International School. The final match will be held on 17th May.
Seven of the 25 teams are from outside the Male' region. They are K. Gulhee School, K. Maafushi School, V. Keyodhoo School, ADh. Atoll Education Center, K. Himmafushi School, K. Guraidhoo School and Kaafu Atoll Madharusa.
All of the matches will be held at the Hulhumale' Running Track.
