New Radiant Sports Club Chairman Ahmed Mubeen has said that the club going on to achieve success will bring new life to Maldivian football. 

After nine years, New Radiant went on to lift a trophy through beating TC Sports with a score of 3-nil in the FA Cup finals. 

Speaking to PSM after the match, Mubeen said that football in Maldives will not progress without the involvement on New Radiant. 

This is the first season in which New Radiant is playing in the first division after it was relegated to the second division in 2019 following a suspension for failing to pay player salaries. 

Mubeen said that the joy of this success is felt even more deeply when the high spirits in the stadium is seen. 

"When New Radiant comes, there is a surge of energy and excitement in the stadium. As New Radiant starts to gain wins, new life will be breathed into this sport. That is the truth. That is a reality that must be accepted. It might be difficult to hear it sometimes," Mubeen said. 

Mubeen said that there were more spectators for this match than the recent Asian Cup Qualifying match between the national team and Timor-Leste, adding that this gives weight to his statement. 

"I have always said that the sport will not advance without New Radiant. Bigger clubs should be playing here if we are to develop football," Mubeen opined. 

"The target we set for this season is to win at least one trophy. And FA Cup has always been close to New Radiant, so we really wanted to win this."
