Buru Sports Club beat FA Cup defending champion Maziya Sports and Recreation and have secured their spot in the semi-finals.
The last quarter final match between them took place last night at the Galolhu Stadium. The game saw a 2-2 draw at the end of 90 minutes, resulting in a penalty shootout and a final score of 6-5 to Buru.
Buru's Faarooq Ismail fouled Maziya's Haisham Hassan (Bidi) in the second half of the match, which led to a penalty in the 51st minute and Maziya taking the lead with Hamza Mohamed's (Hampe) successful penalty. Maziya extended their lead in the 62nd minute when Mohamed Ilan Imran scored the second goal for the team.
Buru equalized by scoring two goals within two minutes of each other. Gasim Thoif scored in the 70th minute and Diawandou Diagne equalized in the 72nd minute.
Even though Maziya Captain Samooh Ali's (Samuttey) penalty attempt saw it go over the goal, Ilan, Ahmed Aiham (Fatho), Hamza and Haisham were successful in their attempts.
Buru's first five penalty attempts saw Ali Nasir, Ahmed Abdulla (Lily), Abdulla Yaameen (Yaanu) and Hudson Diaz succeed, with the third attempt from Ali Hamdan falling short. Maziya's goalkeeper Hussain Shareef managed to defend the shot.
Buru's goalkeeper Abdulla Arushan and Player of the Match denied Maziya's sixth penalty from Luis Almeida. Maziya goalkeeper Hussain defended against Buru's Shamweel Mohamed's (Bondaa) penalty attempt as well.
Even though Aisam had scored a penalty for Maziya, Diagne went on to score the seventh penalty for Buru. Hussain Sifaau Yoosuf's (Kuro) attempt saw the ball connect with the goalpost. Buru's winning penalty was scored by 18-year-old Mohamed Naisham Nadheem.
Maziya had remained undefeated ever since they won the Shield Match, with them winning the league as well. They lost the President's Cup final against Odi after a penalty shootout. Maziya's coach and Spaniard Luisma Hernández left the team due to his contract expiring. Maziya's Assistant Coach Ahmed Suzair (Kokko) was appointed coach of the team for the FA Cup.
Buru will be playing against TC Sports Club in the semi-finals. The match will be played on Wednesday, 9:00pm.
The first semi-final match will be played between Blue Sports Club and New Radiant on Wednesday, 4:00pm.
