Maldivian swimmer Yoosuf Ziyan Zahid has placed first in the sprint category of the Oceanman Maldives 2026 competition being held in collaboration with Oceanman Global, a world famous open-water swimming franchise.

The race took place at Maafushi beach this morning, with 182 athletes from Maldives and various countries taking part.

Ziyan was crowned the champion in the sprint category, or the 2 Kilometers race's male category after swimming past two foreign swimmers. With this win, Ziyan has earned his spot to compete in the Oceanman World Final Championship set to take place late this year.

The Managing Director of Swim Maldives, organizers for the event, Hussain Shameem stated that Ziyan's win shows that Maldives can compete in international swimming events.

"There are around 10 athletes we are looking forward to competing at an international level. Ziyan's win has given it great encouragement," said Shameem.

The first athlete to finish the 2 Kilometers race, Oceanman Maldives' first race, was Vietnam's Winwin.

The Ocean Kids event and team event also started today. The 5 Kilometers and 10 Kilometers race will be held tomorrow.

The Maldivian edition of the Oceanman Global, a world famous open-water swimming franchise, the Oceanman Maldives saw 532 swimmers from 40 countries register for the event.
