Minister of Sports Abdulla Rafiu stated today that a new chapter has been written in the history of Maldivian sports with "Oceanman Maldives," being held for the first time in the Maldives under the world-renowned "Oceanman Global" franchise.

The Minister traveled to K. Maafushi today to inaugurate Oceanman Maldives, organized by the local Maldivian club "Swim Maldives," and graced the event as the guest of honor.

In an interview given to Mihaaru News after the ceremony, the Minister said that under the government's vision to bring international-level sporting tournaments to the Maldives, Oceanman Maldives is a significant step in that direction.

According to Rafiu, the participation of more than 500 swimmers from 40 countries in this tournament is evidence that the Maldives is progressing on the sporting map.

"This is not just a sporting activity. This is a good opportunity to showcase the natural beauty of the Maldives, especially our clear seas and the charm of our islands, to the whole world," the Minister said.

He stated that it is a goal of the government to advertise the Maldives as an important international sporting destination, rather than just a place to come for a holiday.

Rafiu also noted that activities like Oceanman Maldives will bring great progress to the Maldivian economy and especially to local tourism.

The Minister highlighted the cooperation provided by Maafushi in welcoming the Oceanman event.

According to Rafiu, seeing world-class athletes compete in the Maldives is a huge encouragement for Maldivian youth to advance in the field of sports.

"This is just the beginning. Our hope is to make the Maldives a major hub for open water swimming and other water sports," Rafiu said.

The Minister noted that the government also prioritizes environmental protection in the advancement of sports.

Rafiu gave his assurance that work will be done to bring more such large tournaments to the Maldives in the future.
