The regional zone qualifiers for the Atoll Championship organized by the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) is set to begin this April.
The atoll tournaments in the Atoll Championship came to an end late last year. FAM has informed the islands that preparations are to be made for the regional zone qualifier matches.
FAM has divided Maldives into four main zones. They are the North Region, Central Region, South Region and the Male' Region. Aside from the Male' Region, the other three regions will have two additional subzones.
As per the circular, the matches for the subzones are to begin on certain dates. HA. Dhidhdhoo's matches will begin on 18th April. Qualifiers for Subzone Two in Dhidhdhoo will be held at B. Eydhafushi and will start on 15th April.
Matches for the Central Region's Subzone One will begin on 15th April at ADh. Mahibadhoo. Qualifiers for Subzone Two in the same region will be held on 15th April as well at Dh. Meedhoo.
Qualifiers for the South Region's Subzone One will begin on 18th April at L. Gan, with Subzone Two matches to begin on the same day at GDh. Gadhdhoo.
The subzone qualifiers will finish by the end of April.
The champion and runner-up teams of the subzones will qualify for the regional league. After the four teams compete against each other in the regional league in a home-and-away format, the champion team of that league will qualify for the Dhivehi Premier League (DPL).
The qualifying round for the DPL will be played by the Second Division champions of the Male' Region, TC, who placed 7th in the DPL and Green Streets, who placed 8th in the DPL.
The four best teams from the qualifiers will be able to play in the DPL next season on a home-and-away basis.
