The Maldives team has participated in the 1st Invitational International Relay competition that was held in Chandigarh, India and ended yesterday. The Maldives athletics team set a new record by winning five medals.
This is the first time Maldives has won medals in an international relay competition across all categories. The Maldivian teams won one Gold medal, one Silver medal and three Bronze medals.
The Gold medal was won by the team led by famed Hassan Saaid in the 4x100 meter category. The other runners in the event, along with Saaid, are Nujoom Hassan, Ahunaf Rayyan Fahumee and Sizan Ali Riza.
Saaid, who is the only Maldivian athlete to have won a stage in the Olympic Games, has had a hand in winning a Gold medal for Maldives from three international tournaments.
Saaid's role in winning three Gold medals for Maldives from international competitions:
- 2015 Indian Ocean Island Games: Gold medal in the 100 meter category
- 2019 South Asian Games: Gold medal in the 100 meter category
- 2026 International Invitational Relay: Gold medal in the 4x100 meter relay
Women's team wins Silver, two Bronze medals in Mixed Relay
The Maldives women's 4x100 meter relay team won Silver in that category. The runners in that team are Aishath Shabaa Saleem, Anha Nizar, Mariyam Maiha Hamdan and Ziva Moosa Shafeeu.
Maldives' mixed team won the Bronze medal for the 4x100 meter relay category. The runners in that team are Adam Riffath, Hussain Zeke Suad, Zu Iz Mohamed Suad and Ahmed Absal Mohamed Jaleel.
The aforementioned team has also won Bronze in the 4x400 relay event.
The Maldives men's 4x100 meter relay team also won the Bronze medal. The runners who won this medal are Adam Riffath, Hussain Zeke Suad, Zu Iz Mohamed Suad and Ahmed Absal Mohamed Jaleel.
This competition was arranged by India's Athletics Federation and was held alongside their 3rd National Open Relay competition.
