Futsal has gained popularity in the Maldives. Maldives' National Men's Futsal Team brought back the trophy from the first SAFF Futsal Championship in January. The team won the championship without conceding a single match.

Despite the popularity of the sport, Maldives still lacks an indoor futsal court. Sports Ministry has announced that work on developing such a court will begin within the year.

FAM's total proposed budget comes to MVR 48,458,511. A large part of the funds is expected to come from FIFA, with the budget citing an estimated MVR 32,703,111 to come from FIFA. The budget also states that MVR 8,750,000 is expected through sponsorships. It also projects MVR 1,800,000 will be received through the Sports Ministry, and MVR 308,400 from the Japan Football Association.

FAM expects a budget surplus of MVR 72,741 at the end of the year.
