The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) is ready to unveil their 2026 budget of MVR 48.3 million tonight at their Ordinary Congress.

As per FAM's draft of the budget which was sent to Mihaaru News, the association is proposing a surplus budget.

The budget being proposed by them at the Ordinary Congress, their first one in three years, has a much lower amount compared to previous years.

Their latest budget that was passed in congress was in May 2023 during then-President Bassam Adeel Jaleel's term, with a budget of MVR 85 million.

This will be the first budget being proposed under Ahmed Thoriq's leadership, who took the seat of FAM's President for a second time on 26th July 2025, with an estimated total revenue for the year being MVR 48,458,511.

The biggest portion of the budget comes from FIFA, with the draft of the budget outlining an estimation of MVR 32.7 million this year. Along with that, there will be an estimated MVR 8.7 million via sponsorships, along with MVR 1.8 million from the Sports Ministry.

While the total budget amounts to MVR 48.3 million, there will be a surplus of MVR 72,741 by the end of the year, as per the estimation via the budget's draft.

The largest expenditure from FAM for the year will be from competitions and various activities. MVR 27.2 million has been allocated for tournaments, with an estimated expenditure of MVR 6.7 million for the Dhivehi Premier League. MVR 6.3 million is being set aside for national team expenses, MVR 10 million for administrative operations and employee remuneration, and MVR 1.5 million for the development of women's football within the FAM's Women's League.

While the passing of the budget is on the agenda for tonight's congress, the 2025 activity report and audited financial statements will also be submitted for approval.

The last two years did not see any budget approval via FAM at congress.

After Bassam's second term ended in July 2024, FIFA had assigned a Normalization Committee from August 2024 for about a year to oversee FAM's finances via a firm known as Ankura, which will continue to monitor FAM until July 2026.
