Arrangements have been made for the Maldives U-20 national team to play two matches against Singapore's U-19 national team in preparation for the 2026 SAFF U-20 Championship that will be held in Maldives in March and April.

The championship will take place from 23rd March to 3rd April, with the national team having already begun their training. After the President's Cup final, the entire squad was brought together last night to begin their practice sessions. However, FAM said that practice sessions had already begun before last night without Odi Sports and Maziya, the finalists in the President's Cup.

The U-20 team is being trained by senior national team Head Coach, Hungarian István Urbányi. He took on the positions of Technical Director and the coach of the senior national team last month. The U-20 national team's games against Singapore's U-19 national team will be Urbányi's first showing of his prowess as a coach in Maldives.

Both matches will be played in Singapore. The first match will be played on 1st March at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium. The second match will be played on 11th March at the Bishan Stadium. Singapore's U-19 national team is getting ready to play in the ASEAN U-19 Boys' Championship, which will be held in Indonesia from 1st June to 14th June.

Maldives' training efforts for the 2026 SAFF U-20 Championship began with a trial held last month, with more than 150 players to have participated.

Group A for the championship has Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Nepal. Group B has reigning champion India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
