In this year's Maldives Sports Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to siblings, famous football personality Moosa Manik (Kuda Moosa), and volleyball legend and footballer Mohamed Nadheem.
The awards were presented by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at the ceremony held last night at the Youth Centre.
Moosa and Nadheem received the awards in recognition of their long service to the field of sports.
Moosa, one of the best footballers in Maldives' history, also shone in other sports such as bicycling and volleyball during his prime.
He started his footballing career at New Radiant, contributing to many wins by the team. In 1992, he moved to Valencia as the first professional footballer on a salary basis in the Maldives. At Valencia, he went on to win many accolades. He later joined Hurriyyaa, where he also served as a coach, winning trophies.
Moosa also served as Head Coach for the Maldives' Under 19 team and Assistant Coach of the Senior National Team. He was also crowned 'Football Personality of the Century' by Haveeru News.
Moosa was also an important part of the Maldives' national team when it went on to first win silver at the 1991 SAFF games.
His half-brother, Nadheem, is known for his skill in not just volleyball, but also football and athletics. In football, he has played with Valencia, New Radiant, Orchid and Hurriyyaa. He's also a record-breaking field athlete.
In volleyball, Nadheem shines as an athlete who has had many successes at the national level at both team and individual capacities, and has played with many leading teams.
He was later primarily active in volleyball coaching, including having coached the national men's and women's teams.
