Dheema, Munsif, Eema, Azneen crowned best athletes

Fathmath Dheema Ali has retained her position as Best Sportswoman of 2024 at the Maldives Sports Awards.

Fathmath Dheema Ali has retained her position as Best Sportswoman of 2024 at the Maldives Sports Awards. 

Dheema has consecutively won the honour over the past three years. Since Sports Awards were introduced in 2022, Dheema received the title every year except the first. 

Last night's ceremony recognized outstanding athletes and officials from 2024. The year was one of the highlights of Dheema's sports career. 

Dheema qualified for the Olympics held in Paris, France that year. She was Champion of the Olympics qualifying stage and became the only Maldivian athlete to receive the opportunity of playing in the Olympics. 

Best Sportsman of the Year was Moosa Munsif Ahmed, who went on to the quarterfinals of the South Asian Olympics Qualifying tournament with the National Men's Team. 

Dheema and Munsif received the awards for being the best athletes in Olympic sports. In other sports, Sportsman of the Year went to bodybuilder Azneen Rashad. Best Sportswoman of the year in non-Olympic sports went to Eema Abdul Sattar, in netball.

Sportsman of the Year, Olympic sports: 1st - Moosa Munsif Ahmed (TT), 2nd - Ismail Sajid (Volleyball), 3rd - Mohamed Rihan Shiham (Swimming)

Sportswoman of the Year, Non-Olympic sports: 1st - Eema Abdul Sattar (Netball), 2nd - Aminath Rabaab Ibrahim (Netball), 3rd - Aminath Vidad (Carrom)

Sportsman of the Year, Non-Olympic sports: 1st - Azneen Rashad (Bodybuilding), 2nd - Shaheen Ibrahim Didi (Bodybuilding), 3rd - Ahmed Rasheed (Bodybuilding)

Lifetime Achievement Award: brothers 'Morning Sun' Moosa Manik (Kuda Moosa) and Volley legend Mohamed Nadheem

Special Recognition Award, Special Olympics Athlete Award: Special Olympics Athlete Mohamed Aushal Adam, Special Olympics Athlete Mariyam Ziva Zahir

Young Sportswoman of the Year: 1st - Fathimath Dheema Ali (TT), 2nd - Mishka Mohamed Ibrahim (TT), 3rd - Thazkiya Amna Mirsad (Swimming)

Young Sportsman of the Year: 1st - Mohamed Rihan Shaheem (Swimming), 2nd - Zeek Hassan Latheef (TT), 3rd - Umair Mohamed Muizzu (TT)

In Sports Media, Sports Visual Artist of the Year title went to Nausham Waheed, while Ismail Shah was awarded Sports Journalist of the Year
