Maldives Sports Awards, organized by the Ministry of Sports, will be held tomorrow night after a one-year hiatus.
The ministry did not stage the awards last year. Introduced in 2022 under the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the ceremony had been held annually until the break in 2024.
As a result, two editions of the awards are now set to take place this year.
Sports minister Abdulla Rafiu said the 2025 Sports Awards ceremony would also be held before the end of the year.
“The idea is to hold the 2025 ceremony later this year,” he said.
The 2024 Sports Awards ceremony will take place tomorrow night at Social Centre. Invitations have been sent to sports executives, athletes and members of the media.
The awards were last held in October 2024, recognizing achievements from the 2023 season. On that occasion, table tennis standouts Fathimath Dheema Ali and Mohamed Shafan Ismail were named best female and male athletes respectively.
