For the first time, a national men's netball team from the Maldives played in an international tournament, and has won a bronze medal.

In the first Asia Cup held in Hong Kong, Maldives won with a score of 21-28 against Japan in the match to select the second runner-up. 

The Asia Cup Champion is Japan, secured through defeating Malaysia in the finals. 

Four teams competed in the tournament. In their first match, Maldives lost to Malaysia with a score of 62-11. The second match was against the champions, Hong Kong, where Maldives lost with 74-16. However, Maldives won with 18-24 in the last match of the league round against Japan. 

Maldives initially prepared to play in the Men's Asian Championship, to be held for the first time by NEtball Asia. But as the tournament, slated for February 5 to 12 in New Delhi, India, had to be cancelled at the last minute, the Asia Cup was organized by Hong Kong.
