Maziya has conquered the nation's top league, securing the Dhivehi Premier League championship for the sixth time.
The title was confirmed for Maziya this afternoon when Club Odi failed to secure a win in their match against Buru Sports Club. The encounter between Buru and Odi at the National Football Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw.
With Odi settling for a single point, Maziya clinched the league with two matches to spare, as Odi can no longer mathematically catch up to Maziya's point total even if Maziya loses its remaining games.
From 16 matches played, Maziya has amassed 44 points. Following today's draw, Odi has reached 39 points with only one match remaining, their final league game against Maziya.
Even if Odi wins that match, they will finish with a maximum of 43 points. With this achievement, Maziya has become the team with the most league titles in the Maldives.
Since the country's primary league was introduced as the Dhivehi Premier League in 2015, Maziya has also established itself as the most successful club in the competition.
Maziya's success now brings them level with New Radiant's historical record for the most league shields won. New Radiant won the Dhivehi League four times and secured the title twice more after the primary league was re-branded as the Dhivehi Premier League. Maziya is set to face New Radiant tonight.
In today's match, Shamweel Mohamed initially gave Buru the lead, but Keanu Marsh-Brown equalized for Odi in the second half.
