The Maldives has won the championship trophy of the historic 2026 inaugural SAFF Futsal Championship.
Winning every single match, the Maldives secured the title with one game to spare two days ago.
In their journey to the title, the Maldives defeated Pakistan 7–1 in their opening match, followed by a 6–1 victory over Bangladesh. In the subsequent game, they beat India 5–0, and then won a hard-fought match against Nepal with a 2–1 scoreline.
The championship was officially confirmed on Saturday after coming from behind to defeat Bhutan 3–1. In today's final match, the Maldives defeated Sri Lanka 5–2, concluding the tournament with 15 points from six matches and a perfect 100 percent winning record.
The SAFF Futsal Championship awards ceremony took place this afternoon following the final match of the tournament. In that final fixture, India defeated Pakistan 4–1 to secure second place with 11 points.
India’s only defeat in the tournament came at the hands of the Maldives, having drawn their two matches prior to that encounter. Nepal took third place in the league after defeating Bhutan 4–1 this morning.
Like India, Nepal’s only loss was against the Maldives; they also finished with 11 points, but India secured second place due to a superior goal difference of three goals.
Pakistan finished in fourth place with 10 points, having lost to both the Maldives and India. Bangladesh ended the tournament in fifth place with seven points, while Sri Lanka and Bhutan both finished with just one point each.
The futsal team is scheduled to return to the Maldives tomorrow night, with celebrations, including fireworks, planned for 10:00 PM at the Artificial Beach.
