18 academies compete in FAM Under-14 tournament; top 10 to advance to league round

Eighteen academies are competing in the FAM Under-14 tournament, with the top 10 teams set to advance to the league round, Football Association of Maldives (FAM) said.

The tournament is open to academies of FAM member clubs as well as private football academies. Six of the 10 first-division clubs participated through their academies: Maziya, Odi Sports, Eagles, TC Sports, Valencia and United Victory.

New Radiant, Buru Sports, Victory and Green Streets did not take part.

The 18 teams have been divided into three groups of six each.

The top three teams from each group will qualify directly for the Under-14 Academy League, while the three fourth placed teams will also advance, making a total of 10 teams in the league round.

The league round will be played in a single round robin format, with the team finishing first crowned Under 14 champions.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on the 8th of next month, with the league round set to start after Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.

Last year’s Dhivehi Youth League was held in collaboration with Maldives Soccer Mates and featured three age categories. Player performance was tracked using data and technology throughout the competition.

This year, the Academy Championship will be organized directly by FAM.
