TC Sports Club have confirmed their spot in the playoffs after beating Club Valencia 1-0 last night in the 98th minute in the Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League.

With this result, TC have also ignited hope they will maintain their placement in the First Division for the next season, and currently have 15 points from 16 games while sitting at 7th place. Green Streets are in 8th place with 11 points, Valencia is in 9th with 8 points and United Victory (UV) are in 10th with 7 points.

The bottom two teams on the leaderboard will be relegated to the Second Division automatically, with 7th and 8th place set to play against each other in a relegation playoff.

TC is a team that were promoted to the Dhivehi Premier League after beating UV 1-0 in the final of the Second Division and after a playoff match in 2014. They subsequently placed second in the league for their first three seasons and have claimed champion status in 2018.

Valencia had been relegated from the First Division in 2018. They proceeded to return to the Dhivehi Premier League in 2020 after winning the 2020/2021 season in the Second Division.

TC's winning goal was scored in the 8th minute of extra time when a header from Ibrahim Jimo via a corner kick from Chalana Chameera rebounded off a Valencia defender upon defending it, with Prince Boadu slotting the ball in goal.

Every team in the league now has two games left to play for this season. TC are to play against Victory and Buru Sports, with Valencia to play against UV and the Eagles.
