Maziya moved to within one win of securing the Dhivehi Premier League title after beating Eagles 3–0 at the National Football Stadium yesterday.
The victory took Maziya to 43 points, leaving them needing just one more win to clinch the title.
They can seal the championship with a win against Buru Sports on Thursday night.
Maziya remain unbeaten this season, with their only dropped points coming in a draw against TC in the second round.
Eagles, who have been Maziya’s closest challengers over the past five seasons, were unable to match them this time. Despite a competitive first half, Maziya took control after the break.
The goals came in the second half through captain Samooh Ali, Ahmed Aiham and Hamza Mohamed.
The main challenge to Maziya’s title push this season has come from Odi Sports, newly promoted to the first division.
Maziya currently hold an 11-point lead over Odi, who sit second on 32 points.
Odi face Valencia this evening. A win would reduce the gap to eight points, though it would not prevent Maziya from sealing the title with victory in their next match.
