Odi Sports' loss to the Eagles has cost them their chance to close the gap between them and Maziya.
The Eagles won their Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League game against Odi last night at the national football stadium with a 2-0 scoreline.
If Odi had won, they would have a four-point difference compared to Maziya, with there being a six point difference now. Odi sits at second place with an eight-point difference compared to Buru Sports (third place) and New Radiant (fourth place).
New Radiant and Buru Sports will be playing against each other night, with a win for either team resulting in a five-point gap from Odi. New Radiant and Buru currently have 20 points on the table.
The Eagles' goals were scored by Zain Zafar and Sierra Leone's Ibrahim Lebbie.
In the 31st minute of the match, the Eagles forward Serbian footballer Drago Maksimovic sent the ball forward to Ibrahim Mahudhee Hussain from the middle of Odi's half. Mahudhee attempted to move into the penalty area upon controlling the ball, with Odi goalkeeper Mohamed Shafeeu (Cech) running out of the area.
Mahudhee took the ball of Shafeeu and sprinted to reclaim possession. By the time he reached the ball, he did not have an angle on goal to score, and so he proceeded to pass the ball back into the area to Zain, who slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Ibrahim Lebbie scored the second goal in the 66th minute. Zain's cross right to the front of the goal saw Lebbie score whilst close to the goal post.
Odi's Abdulla Looth Ibrahim and goalkeeper coach Hassan Hameed (Dakey) were given red cards post game due to their frustration over some of the referee's decisions.
