The Maldivian sporting community is in mourning today following the passing of Ibrahim Adhil (Kokko), who was widely regarded as one of the finest volleyball players the nation has ever produced. 

Adhil passed away this afternoon at the age of 48 at Dharumavantha Hospital, after a two-year battle with cancer. His health had significantly declined in recent weeks, leading to his final hospitalization where he remained under close medical supervision until his passing.

The Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM) expressed profound sorrow in a tribute, highlighting Adhil's pivotal role in elevating the sport to its current professional standing. 

Beyond team successes, his individual brilliance was recognized through prestigious honors such as the Haveeru Sports Awards. 

Throughout a distinguished career, he represented the national team for many years and secured numerous titles with the country's most prominent clubs, including Victory Sports Club, New Radiant, and Addu Hiz Club. He also represented the Maldives in beach volleyball, most notably in the 2019 President’s Invitational Beach Volleyball Tournament.

Adhil came from a family deeply rooted in the sport; his brother, Ahmed Adeel (Beybe), was also a celebrated volleyball talent.
