Odi Sports Club closed the gap on league leaders Maziya after securing a dominant 5-1 victory over United Victory yesterday.
The result proved crucial for Odi, who benefited from Maziya’s draw with TC earlier in the day. While there had been a five-point gap between the two sides, Odi’s win reduced the difference to three points.
Maziya remain top of the table with 31 points from 11 matches, while Odi are close behind on 28 points from 11 matches.
Odi took the lead in the first half after United Victory defender Mohamed Samhan turned the ball into his own net. Although the goal was recorded as an own goal, Muzdhan Hassan played a key role in the move, delivering a dangerous ball from the edge of the penalty area.
Earlier, in the 27th minute, Muzdhan tested United Victory goalkeeper Mustafa Ali Ali Adel, but the Egyptian shot-stopper made the save.
Lithuanian forward Karolis Laukžemis was the standout performer, scoring two goals for Odi. Muzdhan later added Odi’s fourth goal in the 57th minute, before defender Ahmed Aiham sealed the emphatic win with the fifth.
United Victory’s only goal of the match was scored by Egyptian forward Mustafa Kamal Mahmoud Hussein.
