National Volleyball Team player Shamaail Hussain has apologized for his actions regarding participation in other tournaments without approval from the National Team as it is against the established Code of Conduct.

A copy of the Volleyball Association of Maldives' (VAM) letter to Shamaail was shared on the association's media group. As per the letter, Shamaail had confessed to his wrongdoings and asked for forgiveness via his own letter.

Shamaail, a resident of L. Maavah, was involved in the Laamaseelu Laamu Tournament organized by the Lh. Atoll Council. He faced disciplinary action for participating in the private tournament without the necessary release from his National Team.

A letter from the VAM was sent to the players group, sharing with them that Shamaail was dismissed from the national team due to the incident. In response to the suspension, VAM had directed referees not to officiate any matches involving Shamaail and had informed the L. Atoll Council of this decision.

As per the letter sent by VAM to Shamaail, he asked for forgiveness as he had participated in another tournament without approval from the National Team, creating a breach in the established Code of Conduct. VAM's letter also read that Shamaail had stated in his letter that he would abide by any and all VAM regulations.

VAM's letter stated that after Shamaail apologized via his letter, Maavah Council had sent VAM a letter requesting he be given the release to play in the Laamaseelu Laamu Tournament.

VAM has said that as the council had requested for the release, VAM went ahead and gave Shamaail permission to play in the Laamaseelu Laamu Tournament on certain conditions. After Shamaail was given permission to play, VAM said that they do not have any reservations in allowing their referees to referee the tournament.

As Shamaail was given the release, VAM referees can now referee matches he would be in

As VAM told their referees that they can now referee matches Shamaail would participate in, Laamu Atoll Council released a statement that read that referees had faced difficulties due to the steps taken by VAM. The council's statement further read that the council decided to halt the tournament due to it.

However, VAM's letter response to Shamaail's letter stated that association referees who have to referee matches Shamaail would be in would not face any further difficulties. The letter sent to Shamaail by VAM read that as the tournament had to be brought to a halt, they decided to approve Shamaail in order for him to play again with certain conditions after taking into account the losses that would be incurred by the teams.

Conditions set by VAM to Shamaail:

  • To report to VAM for no more than seven days after the tournament ends.
  • Cooperate with the VAM's Legal Commission's ongoing investigation.
