Mohamed Faisal, who has been the goalkeeper for Buru Sports this season and is the top goalkeeper for the national team, has signed on for New Radiant. His contract with New Radiant will last until the end of this season.
His contract with Buru was also until the end of this season. A transfer fee of more than MVR 100,000 was needed for him to play for New Radiant, with his contract with Buru still having a decent amount of time left.
In the process of players changing clubs, there are no transfer fees or transactions between two clubs. Most players change clubs after their contract has ended or if the club wants to let them go without a transfer fee.
New Radiant holds the record for the highest transfer fee with a transaction between two clubs. This was in December 2012, when New Radiant signed Ali Ashfaq (Dhagandey), the greatest Maldivian footballer, from VB Sports, for a transfer fee of almost MVR 1 million to VB Sports.
Faisal stayed off the pitch for the last two years due to injury. He was injured in 2023 as the SAFF Championship fast approached.
Fasial has played for New Radiant before in 2017 as a substitute goalkeeper. At the time, New Radiant's number one goalkeeper was the famous Imran Mohamed.
Faisal is the third keeper that has been signed by New Radiant this season from the "top" category. New Radiant started this season with Pakistan's national team goalkeeper Saqib Hanif. Before his injury in November, Saqib had shown great skill, with him not conceding a single goal for New Radiant in his first five matches.
Saqib was the goalkeeper for two of the matches played by Pakistan in the Asian Cup qualifiers in October. He showed great talent, and played a significant role for his team and nation by securing a point in each match.
Due to Saqib's injury in November, he had to step away from his club and his national team. He had an operation at Tree Top Hospital, with the day of his return to the pitch still being unclear.
Due to their goalkeeper suffering an injury, New Radiant made use of the regulation surrounding an additional goalkeeper outside of the transfer window. They brought in Sri Lanka national football team's second goalkeeper Kaveesh Lakpriya.
Kaveesh was in goal for New Radiant in their last two matches of the Dhivehi Premier League.
Kaveesh signed on to Victory in March as FAM had announced that the beginning of the season would be in April. However, as FIFA had told FAM to not start the season and bring it to a halt, club activities came to a standstill as well. And so, Kaveesh was let go from Victory.
The second round of the league will begin on 12th December. The second transfer window of the league is now in effect. New Radiant has stated that they will be signing on more players.
