Maldives has claimed three wins from three matches in the team event in Group V Asia/Oceania at the Davis Cup, rising to the top of Group D. Maldives began competing in the Davis Cup in 2022. This is the first time Maldives has won all their matches and claimed the number one spot.
Group D's matches were played in Bahrain.
Maldives claimed first in Group D after defeating Tajikistan today with a set score of 2-1. The team consisted of Abdulla Faaih Fazeel (Faai), Ahmed Saai Waheed, Daoud Shaheeb, Mohamed Kaisaan Izzath Rasheed and Adam Aal Niyaz.
The first game saw Daoud play against Tajikistan player Iskandar Ismoil, with the game being won by Ismoil with scores of 6-7, 6-4 and 6-4.
Faaih played against Akhmaddzhon Kosimi and equalized the set score, winning in two sets with 6-3 and 6-3.
The third game was a doubles game, with Faaih and Saai on the side of Maldives, with them winning against Ismoil and Akhmaddzhon on the side of Maldives. The set scores came out to 1-6, 6-2 and 6-4.
Maldives won against UAE for their first game and won against Macau for their second game as well, with a game score of 2-1 against both nations.
With Maldives in first place in Group D, they will be facing off against Group A's first place holders, Northern Mariana Islands.
The game will be held tomorrow, with Maldives being promoted to the fourth stage or division in next year's Davis Cup if they win.
