Maldivian athletes Hussain Zayan Shaheed Zaki and Fathimath Nabaha Abdul Razzaq have won the mixed doubles title at the Zambia International Badminton Series.
Competing in Lusaka, Zayan and Nabaha defeated Egypt’s Izzat Kareem Mahmood and Noor Ahmed Yousri in the mixed doubles final.
The Maldivian pair secured the gold medal in two sets, winning 21 18, 22–20.
This is the pair’s second BWF (Badminton World Federation) title, and the fifth BWF gold medal ever won by a Maldivian athlete.

Although the BWF has suspended the Maldivian national team over alleged interference in the Badminton Association’s governance, Maldivian players are still permitted to compete individually in international tournaments.
Zayan and Nabaha are among those continuing to represent the Maldives independently.
In addition to her mixed doubles win, Nabaha and Aminath Nabeeha advanced to the women’s doubles final.

The pair finished with silver, after losing to second-seeded South Africans Amy Ackerman and Johanita Scholtz, who won 21–16, 21–14.
