Agil out, Sayyid advances to semi-finals

Sayyid defeated Agil yesterday during the first heat of the quarter finals with a total of 8.17 points. Agil scored 6.83 points.

The ongoing Rannamaari Challenge sees young surfer Sayyid Salahudheen move to the semi-finals after claiming victory over Ahmed Agil (Ammadey).

Agil is an athlete that has won two of the first national surf leagues this year.

Sayyid defeated Agil yesterday during the first heat of the quarter finals with a total of 8.17 points.

Agil scored 6.83 points, with this being his score for a single wave. He received this score in the seventh wave. The six points he had scored in his fifth wave was not taken into account due to an interference as Sayyid was in priority.

Sayyid will be facing off against Ahmed Hisham Shaheem in the semi-finals. Hisham had faced off against Sayyid in Heat 2 of Round 4.

Hisham won Round 2's Heat 4 with a score of 13.33 points, with Sayyid in second with 12.16 points. Adam Mueen Ibrahim came in third with 8 points.

Hoodh Ahmed (Hoobz), who had won last year's Rannamaari Challenge and the league did not participate in the challenge this year. He has only participated in the Muleekolhu Raalhugandu surfing event. Sayyid claimed the title of junior champion in that event.

In the Men's Open - Shortboard category's Heat 2, Yasin Ahmed Nashid and Kayan Abdulla Areef will be facing off against each other.

Kayan had competed against Hoodh in last year's final. Kayan had beaten out Yasin in the quarterfinal, with him beating out his father, former champion and former President of the Bodyboarding Association Abdullah Areef in the semi-final.

Yasin became the junior champion of last year's Rannamaari Challenge, along with claiming the junior champion spot in the Kerandoo 2025 national surfing tournament.

Yasin Ahmed Nashid and Mohamed Aahil Ibrahim will be competing against each other in Heat 1 of the Junior U18 Boys - Shortboard quarterfinals.

Heat 2 will see Kayan Abdulla Areef and Nooh Mohamed Dhunaim Irshad compete against each other. Sayyid Salahudheen will face off against Mohamed Inan Abdul Hannan, last year's junior league champion in Heat 3. Yousuf Kayan Hamdhaan Zaki and Hussain Azaan Ismail will be competing in Heat 4.

This year's Rannamaari Challenge sees a record number of surfers in the Women's Open - Shortboard category. The category started with 12 surfers, with four having advanced to the semi-finals.

The 12 surfers in the Women's Open category are:

Heat 1 of the quarterfinals saw Rahil claim first. Thaanees made her way to the semi-finals after claiming second in Heat 1, with Naha and Zoha competing in the heat as well.

Heat 2 of the quarterfinals was won by Shaziya. Raufa came in second, with Aaliyah Latheef and Rishtha competing in the heat as well.

Rasil and Raufa will be competing against each other in Heat 1 of the semi-finals. Shaziya and Thaanees will compete against each other in Heat 2.

10 surfers competed in the Masters Category, with two having gone to the finals. The surfers are Mohamed Nusrath and Hussain Nizam, who had competed in the finals last year and is also the President of the Maldives Bodyboarding Association.
