New Radiant defeat Buru Sports 2–1

New Radiant forward Hassan Raaif Ahmed (Hannah) scored the goal as the club beat Buru Sports 2–1 in the Dhivehi Premier League (DPL) yesterday.

With this win, New Radiant who returned to this season after a seven year absence remain unbeaten, though Buru Sports became the first team to score against them in six games.

Moosa Yamin (Yaambe) gave New Radiant the lead in the 21st minute. Egyptian defender Alaa Nasser failed to clear a low shot properly, and after Ahmed Abdulla (Lily)’s weak clearance, Yamin controlled the loose ball and slotted it into the net.

Buru equalized in the 35th minute through Ali Ishfaq Hassan Majeed, who spotted New Radiant’s goalkeeper Saqib Haneef Pakistan’s national team keeper off his line and netted the ball over him from distance. It was the first goal Saqib has conceded this season.

The winner came late in the second half when Raaif controlled a cross from Ali Fasir (Sentey) under pressure from a defender and fired the ball into the top corner.

New Radiant are now level on points with Odi Sports, who lead the table only on goal difference.
