Maziya Sports emphatically continued their winning run
in the Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League (DDPL) by securing a decisive 5-0
victory against Club Valencia.
This win marks Maziya's 12th victory in the 14 matches they have played this
year. This tally includes games from the unofficial League Cup held by FAM
early this year and their AFC Challenge League qualifying matches.
The only two matches Maziya failed to win were a draw against Odi Sports
Club in the League Cup group stage and a 4-0 defeat against Kuwait's Al Arabi
in the AFC Challenge League qualifiers. Despite the group stage draw with Odi,
Maziya ultimately won the League Cup trophy by defeating them in the final.
Today's match against Valencia was Maziya's 14th game this year.
The significant margin of victory has boosted Maziya's goal difference to +27.
They now lead the DDPL table with 18 points, maintaining a five-point lead over
their closest rivals.
The match, played today at the National Football Stadium, saw the opening
goal scored by the young talent Mohamed Ilaan Imran, who started his senior
career with Valencia.
The goal came after Maziya's Hamza Mohamed (Hampe) played the ball into the
box. Valencia defender Hassan Haisham Hamid attempted to control it, but before
he could clear, Ilaan capitalized on the loose ball and slotted it into the
net.
Maziya scored their remaining four goals in the second half. Just three
minutes into the half, Ilaan extended Maziya's lead.
The sequence began with a corner taken by Ibrahim Aisham (Tony). Defender
Luis Almeida's shot rebounded off the post, and a Valencia player cleared it
forward. The ball fell to Hassan Nazim (Choate) outside the box, whose ensuing
shot deflected off Valencia's Uzbek defender Davronbek Abduvakhopov. Ilaan was
quick to react and finished the rebound into the goal.
Abduwahopov was also at fault for Maziya's third goal. He failed to
properly clear a ball sent in by Aisham. The rebound off his foot was quickly
pounced on and scored by Luis Iglesius.
Maziya's fourth goal was scored by Ahmed Aiham. Ilaan's pass deflected off a
Valencia defender to Aiham, who entered the box and struck the ball into the
bottom corner of the net.
The final goal, Maziya's fifth, came in second-half stoppage time, also
scored by Iglesius. He converted a corner delivered by Aiham with a powerful
header.
