Fathimath Ibrahim (Fathun) has been bestowed the honor of representing Maldives for the first time at the Wuxi 2025 World Taekwondo Championships (WTC).
The WTC is currently being held in China, with Maldives number one taekwondo athlete Fathun competing in the under 53 kg category.
Taekwondo is one of the more recent national sports associations in Maldives. This martial art has only been officially around in Maldives for a short period of time.
Fathun, 37, began her journey as a taekwondo athlete in 2019. It is a special honor for the Maldives' top women's category athlete.

Fathun has made her way to taekwondo's biggest stage in the world while holding the Maldivian flag up high, with this being the first time Maldives taking part.
The Maldives Taekwondo Association sees this as a new page in Maldivian sports, with Maldives having the chance to compete alongside taekwondo's best athletes in the world.
The World Taekwondo Federation is funding all of the Maldives team's expenses.
This includes traveling to China, transport to the city where the WTC is being held in, lodging and food.
Maldives became a member of the World Taekwondo Federation in 2022.
The WTC will see Maldivian taekwondo athlete Fathimath Ibrahim and Nepalese coach Pradip Gharti Magar represent Maldives.
