President of FIFA Gianni Infantino has expressed satisfaction in the efforts being made to bring Maldivian football from the depths.

One of the reasons Infantino conducted an official visit to Maldives was to encourage FAM's work in bringing Maldivian football back onto its feet.

During Infantino's meeting with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, he congratulated FAM's new leadership in their efforts to rise above the unfortunate events that befell Maldives in the last few years. Infantino acknowledged Maldives' progress and assured FIFA's ongoing aid to Maldives.

Infantino said that the development of young and skilled players is quite important and along with being a nation of beauty, Maldives will shine as a powerhouse in global football.

During former FAM President Bassam Adeel Jaleel's tenure, corruption had spread through the association, with management and football coming to a halt. He has been sentenced to prison for embezzlement. Current FAM President Ahmed Thoriq (Tom) took office to turn the situation around, with him winning the Normalization Committee election.

Thoriq had recently traveled to Switzerland, Zurich to visit Infantino at FIFA's headquarters. Infantino had praised Thoriq's efforts after the meeting as well, along with praising Maldives' win against Sri Lanka in the South Asian Super Cup.

"I have no doubts that Thoriq will bring his experience and insight as a former player in his work," said Infantino.
