National team players, officials benefits equalized, increased to MVR 7,000

For the first time, the benefits for national team athletes and officials have been equalized, with allowances increased to MVR 7,000, a pledge from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Before this, athletes had a monthly salary of MVR 5,000, with officials receiving MVR 2,500.

The Sports Ministry released a circular to national sports associations on Thursday, as per the President's pledge, an allowance of MVR 7,000 was put into effect since May this year.

However, the allowances for athletes and officials have remained unchanged from May until last month. 

For those months, athletes are to receive an extra MVR 2,000 monthly along with MVR 7,000. Officials are to receive MVR 4,500 monthly.

The Sports Ministry has said that they are in the process of allocating these funds.

The ministry's circular also stated that they will follow an "allowance sheet" that was made on 15th September. 

President Muizzu had attended evening tea with the senior national football team on 2nd September.

A Sports Ministry official stated that President Muizzu had told the national team's athletes their allowances, along with the officials, would increase very soon.
