Maldives Aquathlon Championship 2025 to be held at Maafushi

The event is being organized by Swim Maldives, with it being the first of its kind in Maldives.

The championship will be held on 31st October and 1st November.

The swimming portion of the championship will be held at Maafushi Bikini Beach, with a 500 meter 3-point route having already been decided. The running portion will be a 2.5 kilometer run around the island. Swim Maldives has said that the run will include a part of the beach as well.

There will be three categories in the aquathlon, which are Elite, Sprint and Discover.

This category will have a one kilometer swimming section and a five kilometer running section for male and female participants aged over 15. However, Swim Maldives has said that arrangements have been made for those who are below 15 if they want to participate.

This category will have a 500 meter swimming section and a 2.5 kilometer running section. This category was made specially for those who are below 15 years of age. Swim Maldives has said those who are over 15 years of age can compete, but they will not be able to earn placements, as per their guidelines.

This category will have a 200 meter swimming section and a 500 meter running section. Swim Maldives said that this category is for children and first timers who want to experience such an event, with it being non-competitive as well. The swimming section for this category will be held at Maafushi Bikini Beach's lagoon area where it is shallow.

Swim Maldives has allowed the use of fins, noodles and kick boards for the swimming race. However, Swim Maldives has said that contestants who use these pieces of equipment will not receive any placements.

The swimming event will be first, with the running event straight afterwards with athletes putting on shoes and taking off. Placements will be announced amongst the first few athletes who finish the running event.

Contestants can participate solo or as a team, with two per team. One athlete is to swim, with the other athlete doing the running event. Swim Maldives said that solo event athletes can also compete in team events.

The individual events will be held on 31st October, while the team events will be held 1st November.

Swim Maldives has said cash prizes have been arranged for podium winners. Maldives Islamic Bank is the main sponsor for the championship.

Prospective competitors can put in their submissions by next Wednesday via the Swim Maldives website.

Swim Maldives has also said that athletes and parents are to receive affordable packages from Kaani Palm Beach Hotel and Kaadi Grand.
