Rival teams New Radiant and Victory have decided to use their classic 1980's jersey in their upcoming match on 21st October in the Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League.

New Radiant players will be wearing their 1982 jersey when they lifted the national cup for the first time. The jersey has green and white stripes with blue numbers and names. This jersey was an uncommon sight at the time, as blue and white are their official colors.

New Radiant Chairman Ahmed Mubeen stated that their cup win against Victory with a score of 2-1 was a historical achievement for the club, with the classic jersey being worn to show appreciation and in remembrance of their past players.

Even though New Radiant won that year with players such as Moosa Maniku (Kuda Moosa), Rinbudhoo Ahmed Nasir (Naabe), Athama Moosa Maniku, Ahmed Maniku (Kuva Ahammadhey) and Ibrahim Saleem (Metaa), Victory claimed the cup three years in a row afterwards.

The cup was won by Victory in the 1985 finals via penalties against New Radiant. At the time, Victory had star players such as Captain Juliet Abdulla Rasheed (Jooley), Ibrahim Ismail and Mauroof Ahmed (Maattey). Victory will be wearing their traditional red jersey that was worn in the 1985 finals match.

Victory Vice Chairman Ibrahim Nazeem stated that both clubs agreed to this in order to mark the 40th anniversary of their win, along with reigniting the competition between both teams.

This is the first time both teams will be playing against each other in the First Division since 2018. New Radiant and Victory, the two teams that have the most accomplishments and supporters, were in the Second Division for the last six years due to a punishment they incurred by the FAM. Spectators filled the stands when both teams would play against each other in the Second Division.

As is known, the competition between both teams is being promoted as "The Royal Rivalry" in order to add more excitement to the upcoming game, with both clubs teaming up and conducting activities.

Currently, New Radiant has won three matches and are third in the league table with 9 points. Victory is in seventh place with three points having won one match.
