Maziya goalkeeper Hussain Shareef has been picked up by the national football team after his recovery from an injury.
Hussain suffered the injury during an off-season tournament. He has been the national team's top keeper in the last two years.
Sources say the injury was localized to one of his fingers.
Hussain did not play for the national team during the South Asian Super Cup 2025 held in Sri Lanka last month due to his injury. Maziya's third goalkeeper, Iyan Abdul Aleem (Chicky) was chosen in his stead.
Hussain was in goal during Maziya's latest game against Buru Sports in the Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League. Iyan was in goal during their previous match against TC.
Iyan was not chosen for the national squad this time around. Along with Hussain, the other two keepers who were chosen are Mohamed Faisal from Buru Sports and Mohamed Yameen from Victory.
Due to Faisal being injured for the last two years, Hussain was in goal for the national team. Hussain played as the first goalkeeper for Maldives during the 2023 SAFF Championship held in Bangalore, India.
The result was a negative one for Maldives. However, football experts stated that Hussian was the best player in the entire team.
