While Badminton Association of Maldives (BAM) may be currently suspended, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) has given Maldivian badminton players special temporary permission in order to compete in international tournaments.

BWF suspended the BAM in May due the influence of the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) and the Commissioner of Sports reaching the BAM.

MOC released a statement saying that due to the reformation steps they took, badminton athletes can now compete until 26th December 2025. With this, Maldives can participate in next month's Asian Youth Games to be held in Bahrain.

MOC stated that the BWF gave them this opportunity due to the progressive reform work from BAM. MOC has said that a new set of guidelines have been drafted and dates have been scheduled for the election of an extraordinary congress.

The BAM's committee saw an end to their term on 11th March. However, there have been no guideline reforms even without an election taking place.
