A disciplinary case has been filed concerning storage units constructed as part of the arena project at Maafannu Stadium, an initiative funded by FIFA, without informing the organization about this particular development.
During the tenure of former FAM President Bassam Adeel Jaleel, the Ministry of Sports awarded the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) a 50-year lease of the land to carry out the project under FIFA’s Forward Program.
However, during the initial phase of the project, FAM altered the approved designs and constructed warehouses for rent, without notifying or obtaining approval from FIFA. This issue had been previously brought to FIFA’s attention.
After further consideration, the current FAM Executive Committee has now decided to refer the matter to the association’s Disciplinary and Ethics Committee for investigation.
In addition, several parts of the land were leased for commercial purposes without the approval or knowledge of the FAM Executive Committee. As such, the ExCo has decided to refer both matters as separate cases to the disciplinary body for review, FAM confirmed.
Cases referred to the Ethics Committee regarding the Arena Project:
- Alteration of the project’s initial drawings without FIFA’s knowledge or approval
- Leasing of various parts of the land for warehouse construction and other purposes without ExCo approval
