Shakeeb appointed to Asian Volleyball medical committee

Veteran Maldivian sports doctor Ahmed “Doc” Shakeeb has been appointed to the Asian Volleyball Confederation’s (AVC) medical committee.

Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM) said his appointment was confirmed at the AVC Board of Administration meeting held in Thailand on September 6.

Shakeeb said he was honoured by the role and thanked VAM for its trust and encouragement. Sports minister Abdulla Rafiu and former minister Ahmed Mahloof both welcomed the news on social media.

Shakeeb, a recipient of the National Award for Service to Sports, is among the most experienced sports doctors in the Maldives and South Asia. He has served in the Football Association of Maldives’ medical department and worked with the national team from 1997 until recently, playing a key role in many of its achievements.

Beyond medicine, Shakeeb has also held senior football administration roles, including as FAM senior vice president and as a member of the FIFA appointed Normalization Committee in 2015.
