New Radiant has paid about USD 17,000 in overdue salary and fines to Ghana defender Abdul Fattah who was brought under their former leadership when the club was in second division. With this, the club has now overcome the transfer ban placed by FIFA, New Radiant Chairman Ahmed Mubeen announced.
Mubeen said that the payment had been made in full by the team some time ago. He said that FIFA has informed the club in writing that the ban has now been lifted.
Another source speaking to Mihaaru News said that it had taken some time for the player to receive the money, due to delays in the transaction process.
The source said that Abdul Fattah has now confirmed to FIFA that he has received the funds.
New Radiant previously faced transfer bans due to failure to pay salaries to Afghanistan defender Zohib Ismail Amiri and former coach Benardo Tavarez. The team was later suspended and relegated to the second division, with New Radiant coming back in 2022 after having paid these salaries in full.
With Super United Sports leaving the Dhivehi League, FAM decided to grant the first division slot to the highest scoring team from the two teams who lost in the second division semi-finals.
Odi Sports and Victory confirmed slots in the First Division through making it to the Second Division finals. The two teams who lost to them in the semi-finals are Tent Sports and New Radiant. Between the two, New Radiant was in the lead.
