Yasin claims “Kerandhoo" Junior Championship with record score

Yasin scored six points on his first wave, followed by a perfect 10 on his fourth wave, a score never before awarded in the junior division of any tournament. This marks the first time in junior surfing history that a wave has received full marks.

Yasin Ahmed Nashid has claimed the junior championship of the  newly held Dhivehi Surf League’s “Kerandhoo 2025” tournament with a record score.

In the final heat held yesterday, Yasin outperformed last year's champion, Mohamed Inan Abdul Hannan, with a 16-point total. Inan finished with a combined score of 12.93, earning 6.33 and 6.60 points on his two best waves.

Yasin scored six points on his first wave, followed by a perfect 10 on his fourth wave, a score never before awarded in the junior division of any tournament. This marks the first time in junior surfing history that a wave has received full marks.

The last known perfect 10 in Maldivian surfing was scored by Ahmed Agil (Ammadey), who achieved it in the open division of the Randha Raalhugandu event in K. Thulusdhoo, during the second wave of the fifth-round heat.

Yasin’s total of 16 points is now the highest ever recorded in a junior final in this tournament’s history.

Last year’s junior champion, Inan, had earlier impressed in the semi-finals with 8.17 and 7 points , with a combined total score of 15.17. Kayan Abdulla Areef followed with 10.07 points in the same round.

Yasin booked his place in the final by beating Ahmed Luzain in the first semi-final heat, scoring 11.67 points to Luzain's 8.50.

This year's first Mulikolhu Raalhugandu junior champion, Sayyid Salahuddin, exited in the quarterfinals. In the first quarterfinal heat, he faced off against Yasin and Inan. Yasin won the round with 14 points, Inan followed with 11.67, while Sayyid scored 9.50. Ahmed Aal Aadil finished with 2.94 points.

In the second quarterfinal heat, Kayan Abdullah Areef claimed victory with 14.17 points. Luzain secured second place with 8.50 points. Mohamed Raul and Mohamed Ahil Ibrahim scored 5.67 and 4.40 points respectively.

The junior category featured a total of 18 surfers this year.
