Mohamed Irfan (Irey) has said that even though he has hung up his jersey after 12 years, he will always have respect for the team and that his heart is full of gratitude.

Irey has signed on to play for New Radiant for the next season after attaining major achievements at Maziya.

Irey has told Mihaaru News that he will never forget about Maziya and that they have helped him become the player he is today.

"I will always have respect in my heart for Maziya. Even now, I want to extend my gratitude to the club," said Irey.

He went on to say that Maziya had helped him to the best of their ability and that he is quite thankful to the team's management, specifically CEO Ahmed Shafiu (Kokky).

"I have achieved all I can with that team. I wore the captain's armband for four years. I will never forget these memories."

Irey said that all his focus is currently on making strides with New Radiant.

"I want to tell New Radiant supporters that I will work exceptionally hard to bring success to the club," said Irey.

Irey had been getting quite a lot of offers due to his playing at Maziya, specifically during the 2016 season. However, he chose to stay at Maziya due to good management.

Irey, who started his career at Valencia and joined Maziya in 2014, is satisfied that Ali Suzain has taken over as coach at New Radiant. Irey admires the work Suzain has done for Maziya during Suzain's time as coach.

"I have come to learn and grow the most as a footballer under Suzain's leadership as coach. I have gotten to this point with his guidance. Coach Suzain helped me become a better player by telling me all the ways to improve my game. I will always remember that," Irey has said in the past.

Under Suzain's guidance, Irey was named Maldives' most promising football player in 2014. He also captained the youth national team.
